  13. a three part adventure game, where you

  15. can choose between Furs, Voyager, or
  16.  
  17. Oregon.  In FURs, you are a trader
  18.  
  19. starting out with canoes, people (not
  20.  
  21. just men), and furs.  The program uses
  22.  
  23. a mixture of text and hi-res graphics,
  24.  
  25. to help you travel successfully
  26.  
  27. (hopefully) to the trading center you
  28.  
  29. pick, making decisions, and learning
  30.  
  31. from your mistakes.  The game could
  32.  
  33. have been a bit more interesting if
  34.  
  35. you ran into different problems each
  36.  
  37. time you play, but I still liked it.
  38.  
  39. For ages 8-13.
  40.  
  41.   HISTORY STAR, from Island Software,
  42.  
  43. is a trivia-type game played by
  44.  
  45. multiple players. Categories
  46.  
  47. include Black Americans, Constitution,
  48.  
  49. Expansion, Explorers, Indians,
  50.  
  51. Pioneers, and Presidents. You have a
  52.  
  53. choice of three categories each time
  54.  
  55. (unless you get a *STAR*, where you
  56.  
  57. can choose any).  Different questions
  58.  
  59. are worth different points, and the
  60.  
  61. first to make it to 500 wins. Though
  62.  
  63. this game can teach, it's not as
  64.  
  65. exciting as some other trivia games
  66.  
  67. out.
  68.  
  69.   STATES AND CAPITALS, from
  70.  
  71. Micrograms Software, lets you choose
  72.  
  73. either capitals, states, or both.  You
  74.  
  75. are timed on your answer. There is a
  76.  
  77. hi-res map of the US, and as you play,
  78.  
  79. a dot lights up on the state being
  80.  
  81. quizzed.  We both feel that
  82.  
  83. educational games should not have
  84.  
  85. timers!  Each child works at his own
  86.  
  87. speed, and many children are
  88.  
  89. intimidated or frustrated by timers
  90.  
  91. ticking away.
  92.  
  93.   U.S.ADVENTURE, from First Star,
  94.  
  95. presents you with a hi-res map of the
  96.  
  97. US.  You have to travel the states in
  98.  
  99. the order that they entered the
  100.  
  101. union, using the keyboard or a
  102.  
  103. joystick.  As you travel, you can pick
  104.  
  105. up events or objects in each state. 
  106.  
  107. You can also use the time tunnel to
  108.  
  109. travel to the year of an event to
  110.  
  111. receive extra points.
